gled and Megan and Flynn entered, drawing an automatic smile from Mo. It was a rare treat, having her whole family together, especially now that Megan lived in L.A. Although it was only ninety minutes away, it might as well be a three-day drive for as often as they traversed I-5 to see each other.

Flynn looked at her watch. “Okay, Mom. We’re here, and I’ve only got a little time before Mrs. Ramirez brings Flopsy in for her checkup.”

She bit her lip and took a deep breath. “You three know that you are dearest in my heart, and no one could ever mean more to me than you do—”

“Oh, God, you’re dying,” Megan cried.

She momentarily closed her eyes. “No, Megan, I’m not dying, and please don’t interrupt. I’m not good at explaining these kinds of things.” She looked at all three of them before continuing. “As I said, you are all important to me, but I’ve come to realize that there is room for someone else.”

Kellen’s eyes went wide. “Grandma, are you trying to tell us that you have a boyfriend?”

She blushed and they voiced their surprise. Flynn asked,

“How can you have a boyfriend we’ve never seen? Kellen and I live in the same house with you. I’m sure I’d notice if some man were standing in the kitchen wearing your robe and making French toast.”

“Flynn,” she said, her cheeks warm. “I am of a different generation, and we are much more discreet.”

“Sounds boring,” Megan added. “So, Mom, how long have you been seeing this guy?”

She debated her answer. “In what sense?”

Megan held out her hands. “How many senses are there?”

“We’ve known each other a long time as friends, and we’ve only recently discovered that we have other feelings.”

Kellen jumped up. “It’s Manny, isn’t it.”

“No!” Flynn and Mo said in unison.
